The Pokemon Trading Card Game first launched in Japan 1996, but became a worldwide phenomenon with the launch of the English language Base Set in January 1999. Together with the game franchise and following anime series, it reached all corners of the globe with over 40 billion cards sold worldwide.

Whilst it has seen a resurgence in recent years as people revisit their old collections from their childhoods, Pokémon have been releasing more than 100 sets in English alone, plus many promotional collections.

The game itself requires a deck of 60 cards each player, dice and a coin, but the cards need to be selected strategically and you can't just have all the "best" ones!

Some of the original cards are worth more than £30,000, like the original Charizard holo, when graded as "Gem Mint" condition.
